Finding a Home

"Layers of pink carnations, find a home in a flea market treasure."

Debbie Lamey-MacDonald ©

My mom bought this little bottle when she was at a flea market recently. She often keeps an eye out for little treasures she thinks I might like to use in my still life. Great mom eh?!
I really loved this little bottle and felt it would be a perfect subject for my miniature paintings. I decided to dress it up with ribbon and a bow, as well as pink carnations. This little one would make a perfect Valentine Gift for someone special!

In Progress

The size of the board I used was new for me. It is 5x4 inches and I have to say, I really enjoyed this size. I can see more miniatures being painted on this size in the future.

Facebook Art Challenge

I recently participated in the facebook art challenge. The objective of the challenge is to post 3 pieces of work for 5 days and nominate a new artist each day to participate. It was fun to participate and I appreciated being nominated by a fellow artist Susan Schaefer. If you are interested you can view the work I posted on my facebook timeline, if you missed it. Thanks!

Hope your week is rolling along smoothly!

Warmly,
Debbie

Rescued and Word of the Year

Sold

Rescued

"Rescued from icy conditions, tiny crab apples relax upon a bowl of turquoise."

Debbie Lamey-MacDonald

I really enjoyed painting this one. I bought the turquoise bowl with my miniatures in mind. Loved the color and shape! I rescued these crab apples from icy branches and tucked them in my freezer when I got home. My family of guys just grinned and shook their heads when they saw them in the freezer. They have become accustomed to their resident artist. Never a dull moment! lol

Clusters of crab apples hanging from the trees. They looked like Christmas baubles.

I knew I wanted to paint them sometime, but wasn't sure when, due to my busy schedule. A month and a half later they came out of hiding to debut in this little still life.
The apples became darker from being frozen, but I thought they looked really rich beside the turquoise. I was also happy I had kept the branch intact as well. It created nice movement in the painting.

Up close and personal!

On another note, January is a great time of year to take stock of where we are and the direction we would like to be taking in various areas of our life--career, personal etc. One of the more common practices this time of year is to write New Year's Resolutions. I think they are a good idea in some respects because they help focus our dreams and desires. However, they are sometimes another "thing" to do and fall by the wayside because they do not align with our internal desires, only our "shoulds"! That is why a few years ago I began picking a word of the year that I felt intuitively aligned with where or what I wanted to experience more in my life for the upcoming year.

You can fine Christine Kane's Word of the Year booklet Here.

I got this idea from Christine Kane. She also has a great little workbook you can print off to get you started on picking your word. You can find her workbook here. I like to type my word and post it around the house, in my studio etc. My word this year is "Expansion" and last year's was "Joy" -- it led me well throughout 2014. Thought you might like to give it a try! Good Luck!

Hoping all your Dreams come True in 2015!!

Warmly,
Debbie

Special News!

 Magic, 4x4in. Oil on linen/board
Available at the China Cupboard & Gift Shop

I am happy to share that I now have a selection of miniature paintings available at a local gift shop the "China Cupboard & Giftware Ltd."!  They are also offering a variety of note cards and magnets of my work as well. It is a lovely shop which offers many beautiful and unique gift items. It is one of the shops I like to visit when I am looking for a special gift.

They selected a lovely well lit shelf to display my miniatures in a grouping. I greatly appreciated having a nice bright shelf available for my works! Each miniature is displayed on its own tiny easel with its accompanying written reflection sitting below. Copies of these reflections are also laminated and taped to the backside of each painting.

Here are a few photos of my miniatures on the China Cupboards' Shelf.

It was a pleasure setting up my display with the owner Rick Goodman! He is a lovely man, who appreciates artisans and their creative offerings. Cheers to new beginnings!

I have also added a special section to my website where you can see what miniatures are available through the China Cupboard. Please feel free to contact them if you see any miniatures in their shop that you would love to purchase! They are super friendly and helpful!

Warmly,
Debbie

Happy New Year and Little Forelle

Little Forelle, 4x4in. Oil on linen/board. Sold

Little Forelle

"Aglow in red speckles, a little Forelle sits happily on her glass perch."

A Very Happy New Year to you!! I hope this year brings much happiness and good health into your life, as well as some pleasant surprises!

When I saw this little Forelle pear in the grocery store, I knew I had to paint it. Loved its size, color and red speckles.  A new collector and friend purchased it as a Christmas gift for a friend I actually went to Teacher's College with, many moons ago. It truly is a small world and more and more I am shown how connected we all are.

On Christmas Eve we had our yearly family gathering at our house. I prepare a buffet style supper and we all sit down to share, good food, love and laughter. Afterwards we head into the living room for some fun gift sharing. Lots of laughter and gift opening prevails.

This year my sons totally surprised me with a gift I did not expect in a million years!! They were excited to give it to me and left it to the last gift to be shared. They were armed with a camera and ready to be entertained by my reaction to their big surprise. Well, I am sure I didn't disappoint them with my reaction upon opening their gift. Even as I opened my gift I still was no wiser--usually I am more of a sleuth, but not this time. When I finally realized my gift was a new laptop, I was surprised and thrilled.

The boys teasing me as I open their gift!

Having a good laugh at how the boys pulled off their surprise so well. Ian is giving me a hand getting it out of the box. lol

My Youngest son Tristan loaded this pic to my desktop. It was a delightful surprise!

I showered them with thank yous and delight. My old laptop was becoming so slow loading, it reminded us of a sloth. I was in the process of either ordering a solid state drive or purchasing a new laptop. Something had to give --I was wasting too much time in wait time! Soooo needless to say, my new laptop is much faster and a delight to use!

I have some new ideas I will be exploring in my art this year. I am excited to embark on a full year of my art journey. I love having you travel along with me! Many thanks for all your support. Cheers to a fresh new year!

Warmly,
Debbie
